MEET HELEN, KNOWN AS SUPERMOM IN SOME CIRCLES
Helen Jarrett has been volunteering for FGP from the start. She has taken on the role of Meal Coordinator, Lead Volunteer and board member all while raising 4 adorable kiddos 6 and under. Helen proves that you can find the time to volunteer if you make it a priority. She can be seen at meal making events with all 4 kids helping or driving around town delivering meals. She has a giving spirit, a huge heart and sees the true value in volunteering. In her words, “I would like to say it is for selfless reasons that we do this but you also get so much back from it.”
What made you want to get involved with FGP?
Well, first I knew that working with Andie would be totally awesome! 🙂 We had met through a twin group and I always knew that she was a passionate person but when she started this organization it was confirmed! She has been amazing and I am so honored to be a part of it.
Also, I lost my best friend to brain cancer in high school. She was the sweetest person I have ever known and I love her dearly. I always knew that I wanted to do something to help families dealing with pediatric cancer but I just didn’t really know how. Giving money is always an option but I wanted to do more. My friend was going to study to be a social worker and she had such a kind and loving heart and I just knew that I needed to do something more than use my checkbook. FGP has provided me with that! We help in a very “real” way and it’s such an honor!
Has being involved with FGP made a difference in your life? If so, how?
Every day. I am honored to be a part of this amazing organization. I have met and made lifelong friends, gotten the chance to teach my children about the importance of giving back to your community, and just been able to see how amazing our community is! I am forever changed by FGP and I will be forever thankful for that.
What would you say to describe FGP if someone asked who we are and what we do?
FGP is a local organization that gives back 100% to local families that have a child fighting cancer. It’s an amazing organization in the fact that it makes it so easy to give. FGP focuses on every day life and helps with the little things that most of us take for granted. Food on the table, clean yard and house, cut hair, and gas in the tank. They take away some of the daily stress that is usually swallowed up by the enormous stress of having a sick child.
What keeps you involved with FGP?
For selfish reasons really, I love it! I love working with the other volunteers. I love working with the families. And I love that it allows me to give back, just a little, on a daily basis.
Can you describe your experience with FGP?
It has been amazing! I can’t tell you how much I love and value being a part of FGP!
